Senior Exemption

Low-Income Senior Exemption Age 65+

This additional 50,000 homestead exemption is now available to qualified senior residents in Pasco County following adoption by the Board of County Commissioners. The application deadline is March 1. This exemption is based on income received in the prior year. If you do not have all of your income information and the March 1 deadline is near, please apply! The deadline to supply income information is June 1.

What does it apply to?

  • Additional homestead applies ONLY to County Operating levies [millage].  It does not apply to other county levies such as MSTUs, GO Bonds or those of other taxing authorities.

Qualifications:

  • At least one property owner is 65 years of age or older on January 1.
  • The applicant qualifies for, or is already receiving, Homestead Exemption.
  • Meet limited household income requirements published and subject to change each year by the Florida Department of Revenue. The adjusted income limitation for 2025 has not been announced yet. The 2024 adjusted income limitation was $36,614.  “Household income” means the adjusted gross income in s. 62 of the US Internal Revenue Code, of all members of a household. [This is the “Adjusted Gross Income” amount reported on IRS Form 1040.]

First-time applicants! When you apply, provide:

  • Proof of age [Driver License, Florida ID, Voter ID, or Birth Certificate]
  • If required to file a Federal Income Tax Return: submit form 1040 or 1040A for 2024
  • If not required to file a Federal Income Tax Return: submit documentation such as end of year bank statements, pension summaries, or other documents that will show your total income for the year 2024

Do I have to qualify annually?

  • This exemption is automatically renewed for the majority of seniors receiving the benefit. Please be aware that it is your responsibility to notify us if your income changes and you no longer qualify for the exemption. By law, failing to do so could result in removal of your exemption and back taxes and penalties. Florida Statute 196.075[5] authorizes the Property Appraiser to audit the eligibility of a random sample to ensure the accuracy of the household income reported.
